Tim Leyes is joining me on Cue To Cue Today! Tim is a highly sought after, Toronto-based, photographer who has shot some of the biggest names in show biz. When you visit his website you will find photos of celebrities such as Martin Short, Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, Andrea Martin and many others. Tim has recently started to shoot in LA which is opening up opportunities for L.A. based performers to be able to work with him.

Tim is a real casual guy. I think that is part of his charm. He is warm, friendly, and you can tell he genuinely loves what he does, which allows you to feel comfortable very quickly. I have had a photo shoot with Tim and I can tell you when you’re in front of the camera he has a way of making you feel like you possess everything he needs to make it a great shoot. He gets so excited while shooting you can’t help but get excited and feel confident about letting go and just going for it.

I have also had the pleasure of sitting in on a few sessions and watching him work and I find it equally enjoyable. He is present and focused, enabling the artist to have the best experience possible.

Tim Leyes: How To Secure A Successful Photo Shoot And Ensure A Great Headshot!

by Chelsea Johnson | Cue to Cue

One thing I have noticed that Tim does is, he will ask you what you usually get seen for in auditions and he will take that into consideration when choosing looks for the shoot. It’s one thing to have pretty photos but if those photos aren’t helping you book auditions then really, what’s the point? He will make sure he shoots you in looks that work for those types and then he will do a few looks that go in a different direction, just so you have them if you need them.

I was excited to talk to Tim about and hear his thoughts on what makes for a successful shoot and how we can maximize our odds to have a great result. What do we need to prepare? Should we always get hair and makeup done? How many looks do we bring? How much touching up is too much in post? How do you know you have chosen the right photographer to shoot with?

Tim’s expertise and suggestions for performers during the interview was so useful and could save you from having a bad shoot and potentially save you hundreds of dollars by implementing some pretty simple strategies. Listen up!
