Whenever I engage in a discussion with Trevor, I know the conversation will be filled with complex concepts and ideas about the world as it is, as it was and how we interact with one another while were are here. Challenging the societal norms, stepping back and deconstructing beliefs we have about the world and the way we interact. I have to admit, I love discussions like this. It fills me up.

In this episode, we land on many different topics. Trevor talks about how to keep the theatre relevant in a culture that is moving more and more away from the intricacies of language and more and more into the physical realm. How becoming more physical with the body in live theatre and taking advantage of the fact that the body is one thing that film will never be able to capture like the theatre . Trevor talks about the body being the “inexhaustible metaphor”. It can transform into whatever you need it to be and connect with people in a way film will never be able to and one way to keep theatre relevant and thriving is to capitalise on that fact.

We also discuss Liquid Lead Dance, a gender neutral ballroom dance system, that is being developed by Trevor and his fellow colleague, Jeff Fox. In liquid lead dance ,the lead and follow ebbs and flows between the couple through a series of signals between the partners. This allows them to pass the lead and follow back and forth, creating a fluidity of power and vulnerability between the couple.

They have demonstrated Liquid Lead Dance in a TedX talk las year in Montreal. I have left the link at the bottom of the page. Do yourself a favour, Click it!
