I was so excited to sit down with Michelle for this interview! I know Michelle as an actor, director, writer, and savvy business woman. I also know she used to coach and teach for the personal development company, Landmark, and I could not wait to pick Michelle’s brain regarding all the work she has done through Landmark and how it has affected and informed her creative life. I am very passionate about personal growth and development and believe that everyone can benefit from this type of work, including artists. Michelle was so graciously vulnerable and open to talk about all of her experiences and I think the listener will benefit a great deal from listening to Michelle’s journey.
In this episode, we discuss how she found the courage to make a career change at the age of 29 into acting (which meant leaving a very established position at CityTV), how she believes you cannot shine your brightest without owning the darker sides of your personality, what she recommends doing when you feel stuck in your life, and how after being ill for a prolonged period of time inspired her to journal, which lead to the development of her blog, A Run In My Stockings: Confessions Of A Recovering Perfectionist.
Michelle Leduc: Trusting Your Instincts And Taking The Leap!
A little about Michelle:
Michelle Leduc began her career as a story producer, director, and writer in lifestyle television, starting in live television with CityLine. She worked with numerous successful shows over the years, including House & Home and So Chic with Stephen & Chris, directing and developing many television design celebrities in their on-camera debuts, including Brian Gluckstein, Candice Olsen, and Steven Sabados.
In 1995, dissatisfied with a rewarding but unfulfilling career, Michelle began participating in and eventually coaching personal development courses. She saw how her own insecurities were holding her back from her dreams, and took the plunge into performing.
She became a reporter/producer for Canadian Living Television, host of the live-to-tape W Network show Dancing at the Palais, and graduate of the exclusive President’s Course at the British American Drama Academy in Oxford. Upon returning home from her summer in the UK, she performed in her first play, Noel Coward’s Fallen Angels, for which she won a THEA award. Since then, she has performed in theatre, film, and television, and has written, directed, and performed in two award-winning short films, as well as a critically acclaimed one-woman show called How To Become A Diva!
From this blog (www.aruninmystocking.com), I was asked to teach others to journal, and a workshop called The Power of Journaling was born. I also work with my husband on occasion, teaching improv as a means of dealing with self-esteem, anxiety, and performance issues through Business Improv, Playing With Anxiety, and The Self-Esteem Sessions. While teaching is not my main focus, I do love empowering others. Here are a couple of blurbs from the marketing materials from these courses…
A Note from Michelle on her Blog:
A Run In My Stocking: Confessions of a Recovering Perfectionist is a weekly blog that grew out of my frustration and struggle with a lifestyle then illness that left me physically exhausted, emotional and mentally depleted. and, eventually, grateful for the gift of slowing down and examining what life really has to offer.
Each week, I examine my own life, creating insights, causing breakthroughs, learning lessons, and sharing as I go. My writing mantra us “Share, don’t tell. Inquire, don’t answer.” In my own deeply personal voice, I express the truth of my experience about life- and set the tone with one of my photographs that express my joy and connection with the natural world.
Out of this ongoing inquiry, I am leading journaling workshop that empowers others to create personal growth in their own words. Through these workshops, we create an environment of self-expression, wholeness, and wellness as a means to sustainable satisfaction and fulfillment in life.
