Between mine and Laird’s schedule, it was proving to be a bit of a dance to coordinate a time to talk, but I am so glad we made it happen! Laird was open and ready to share his experiences with no hesitation and it seemed to me like he really wanted to make sure he was getting across the essence of what his experiences have taught him.
Laird is currently living in New York City and performing in The Phantom Of The Opera on Broadway. While consistently doing eight shows a week and understudying the role of the Phantom, Laird still finds time to do workshops and explore new facets of his creativity, such as painting. I got the impression that Laird is someone who is very much in touch with his creativity and trusts his intuition to lead him along his journey as an artist.
In this episode, we discuss why believes you need to follow your curiosity as an artist, what his biggest challenges have been in his career, how he processes reviews, and what it is like to play the Phantom Of The Opera on Broadway twenty years after he played it in Toronto.
