Today I get to release this episode with a good friend of mine, Josh Shultz! Josh is a Writer/Filmmaker/Teacher and has some pretty exciting things happening at the moment. I believe as this episode airs the last episode of a comedic web series, My 90 -Year- Old Roommate, releases from the CBC that Josh co- created and wrote with Ethan Cole. That means you can binge watch them all at once!

I am always  excited to support and take in new projects but I have to admit there is a little part of me that gets nervous when a friend has a new project. I feel the stakes are higher for some reason. I not only liked My 90- Year- Old Roommate. I freaking loved it! I had a thought I am sure a lot of people have when they watch, “How has this not been done before?”. It is a simple idea that has been brilliantly executed. It’s a story about a misguided millennial mooch( Ethan Coles ) who moves in with his 90-year-old widowed grandfather (Paul Soles) and they explore the modern world together  through two different generations eyes.

In this episode, we talk about how he got introduced to the film and television industry and how it eventually lead to writing and making films, how he is learning to very deliberate in choosing the projects he becomes involved with and how it is becoming increasingly important to him to see ideas through to completion. We also discuss the process of what it was like to take a loose format youtube sketch comedy bit to being picked up by the CBC and developing it into the web- series My 90-Year-Old-Roommate.

Josh Shultz: Developing A Web Series And Completing Creative Ideas

by Chelsea Johnson | Cue to Cue

A little about Josh:

Josh Shultz started out in the film industry as a child actor, working with the likes of Eugene Levy, Hayden Christensen, and the guy from that Nissan commercial. A graduate of Concordia University, specializing in Film Production, Josh’s films have been screened at numerous festivals, and his comedy shorts have been featured on The Comedy Network and Funny or Die. In 2013, Josh co-created the web series Explaining Things to My Grandfather. The videos have accumulated over 3-million views online, were featured on The Huffington Post, Mashable and Digg, and also landed twice on the front page of Reddit. This project led to Josh’s current series, My 90-Year-Old Roommate, which can be viewed on CBC Comedy’s YouTube Channel. Josh currently has a feature film, a television series and an animated show in development.
