Jane Moffat is on Cue To Cue today and I could not be more excited to release this episode! Jane is an insanely talented actor who has studied acting with some of the most famed acting coaches around and has quite a full acting career on stage, film, and television.

I first met Jane when I signed up for her acting class upon recommendation from a friend. After the first class, I was hooked. Jane has unique ability to see a person as they really are and teach them how to use their authentic self as an access point into character study. I continued to study with Jane for years and she is now one of my dearest friends.

In this episode, we discuss what her highlights and takeaways were from studying in L.A. with Lee Strasberg as well as working and training at The Actors Studio in New York. We also touch on what she believes to be some of the biggest misconceptions when it comes to method acting and what side-job she believes artists should avoid doing long-term and why.

Jane Moffat: Authenticity Trumps Performance Every Time!

by Chelsea Johnson | Cue to Cue

A little about Jane:

Jane Moffat is, quite literally, an actor’s actor: the Canadian-born actress studied with the famed Lee Strasberg at his namesake institute in Los Angeles, and worked and trained at the Actor’s Studio in New York City.

Moffat, who had moved back to Toronto in the late 1980s, was honored in 2008 with a Chalmers Award, which is gifted by a well-known Canadian family. After using the award to travel to Italy for an international conference of method writers and actors, Moffat was cast as Letitia Baldrige, Jackie Kennedy’s (Katie Holmes) influential White House social secretary, in the multi-part “The Kennedys.” She was next featured in the Canadian indie “Moon Point” as a quirky teen’s aunt, which she followed with a supporting arc on “Alphas” as the mother of an autistic teen with supernatural abilities. Rounding out the trifecta of maternal roles was “Mama,” where she portrayed the great-aunt of a pair of long-abandoned sisters. Jane can now be seen on the Disney Channel in the series Backstage in which she is a regular Character, the perfectionist dance teacher, Mrs. Helsweel. She recently completed work on SyFy’s Incorporated and Mary Kills people ( Global TV). Ms. Moffat is also writing roles for herself in a feature film and a single camera half-hour series pilot, so expect to be seeing her in several leading roles within the next couple of years!
