I have always secretly wanted to interview Gary Krawford, even before I had the idea for Cue to Cue and now here I am interviewing him.

I am invited from time to time to intimate dinner parties at Gary’s place and at some point in the evening I find a way to ask him to tell me stories of what it was like to work with some of the big time directors, producers, stars and composers on Broadway back when he was living in New York in the 1970’s. Gary never disappoints. He tells his stories with so much humour, humility, and gusto that you feel like you are right back there with him.  I always have to resist the urge to ask him to tell me another one.

I am a sucker for good story teller and Gary is just that.

You don’t get to have as rich of a career in the arts as Gary without learning a few lessons along the way. In this episode, Gary shares his view on the industry past and present, what inspired him to start acting and what you can really accomplish when you are under pressure.

Gary Krawford: Lesson From Broadway And Beyond!

by Chelsea Johnson | Cue to Cue

A little about Gary:

After 3 seasons at the Stratford Festival doing the classics, Gary did his first musical, playing The Boy in The Fantasticks.  He has performed on and off Broadway, with the role of Bobby in “Company” being one of his favourites.  He has also played Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady, and Harold Hill in The Music Man.  He has recently put together a cabaret evening called Songs I Never Got to Sing,… an evening of songs from great musicals and stories about his social life with John Kander, Fred Ebb, Steven Sondheim, and many others.

Garry also has an extensive background as a voice over artist. Select credits include: Brian Irons in Resident Evil 2 (video game), Lynx in Franklin and the Green Knight (film),Thanos in Silver Surfer ( Cartoon), Mr. Lion in Franklin (Cartoon).

Gary shared with me a note from director/producer Hal Prince, that Hal sent to Gary for a Cabaret Gary was putting together and I want to share it with you because as Gary says in the interview, “The bigger they are the more generous they are” and this note from one of the biggest names on Broadway exemplifies this sentiment.

Hal Prince said about Gary’s cabaret evening:

“Gary Krawford is a first rate singer and experienced artist. He appeared in the original production of Company both in New York  & on tour.  The notion behind his new act is extremely attractive & one I wish I could see.
