So excited to sit down with Jeff Dimitriou!
Why so excited?
Jeff is an extraordinarily talented choreographer, dancer, and abstract artist.
In this episode, we discuss the importance of developing awareness as an artist. We talk about the idea that the more aware you are of your relationship with yourself and others, the richer your life experiences will be, both in your creative and personal life. Understanding why we make the choices we do and how taking responsibility for those choices will allow you to be the creator of your experiences and paint with bold strokes.
Jeff Dimitriou: You Are Worth Being Seen
Jeff was named Head Choreographer of the 2015 Pan American Games Closing Ceremonies and the 2015 Parapan Opening Ceremonies, which won a 2016 Canadian Event Award for best entertainment production.
He was a key member of the choreography team with the critically acclaimed Cirque Du Soleil, where they choreographed and directed the 2012 Opening Ceremonies for the FIFA World Cup in Azerbaijan. Other stage credits include: the smash hit Cabaret (Mayfield Theatre), Sterling Award Nominee for best choreography, ‘Cabaret’ & Top of the Pops: British Invasion at Theatre Aquarius, the World Premiere of “Summer in the City” (Stage West Calgary).
Jeff’s Film & Television work includes: The L.A. Complex (CW Network), Come Dance With Me (Hallmark/CTV), Warehouse 13 (Syfy Network), feature film remake of Carrie, Hallmark hit ‘Cowboy for Christmas’, Canadian Screen Awards winner Odd Squad, and has been the resident choreographer for Degrassi (Netflix) for over 5 seasons and much more!
His most current project is working with a group of dancers, The Aliens. Right now they are a dance performance group. Exploring the flow of gender and playing with masculine and feminine qualities.
This is one of those interviews where I felt I could have been there for hours and we still would have only just scratched the surface. Jeff has been engaging on a journey of personal development over the past number of years and I couldn’t wait to talk to him about his discoveries and how they have helped inform his art.
Enjoy!
