Have you ever felt nervous?
Did you ever feel that your performance was compromised because you got too nervous?
Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Most of us seek to avoid nervousness.
Joining the conversation on Cue To Cue today is Actor/Coach/Founder Of The Performers Mindset Joe Towne who reminds us that even though we think that we have to be nerve-free to be at our best, that is not true. We need to be stressed enough that we have the opportunity to be at our edge of growth; but not too far to be overwhelmed or too little to be bored.
What do you struggle most during auditions? Do you look for someone else to tell you how your performance went? Joe explains that is a misunderstanding of what your job is and that is an all to common reflex among performers. It’s a trap, that somebody knows better that you do which leads to anticipatory stress, comparison and a lack of confidence. Focus on yourself and aim for excellence and do better than you’ve ever done before.

Joe Towne On The Performer’s Mindset
A little about Joe:
Joe Towne is an award-winning writer and director who got his degree in Acting from the University of Southern California. He’s been a coach for the past 19 years for both businesses and performers – some of whom are selling that product you just bought or starring in that movie you Netflix last night. This work compelled him to write a book about how our inner reality affects our outer experience, which led him to be a guest on the Dr. Oz show. As an actor he has worked with people like Jennifer Love Hewitt and Hillary Swank and you can see him opposite Rebel Wilson in Isn’t It Romantic, which premiered in February of 2019 and is
now available on streaming platforms.
Joe’s also an acting coach at one of the top studios in Hollywood where he co-created their audition technique program. He works with professional actors and athletes, as they transition from their sport into the entertainment industry. He also works with corporations bringing Mindset into practice in the workplace. Last summer Joe helped coached up the top 24 high school quarterbacks in the country at the Elite 11 weekend in Los Angeles. The Actors Mindset program has been in Los Angeles (both independently and at The Aquila School), at USC, UCLA and most recently at the Vancouver Film School.
