I am honoured to bring you this conversation I had the pleasure of having with Actor/Teacher, Meredith McGeachie. Meredith is currently the head of AMAW Acting Studios, in Toronto, where I am currently taking scene study on Monday nights. It is one of the essential ways I refill my cup and get reconnected with myself and reinvigorate my passion for story-telling. I will move hell and high water to make sure I am in class. Monday nights at AMAW is my non- negotiable. If you are feeling disconnected as an artist, whatever your craft, I have found the quickest way back to feeling inspired and on the path to moving forward is to get to class and surround yourself with people who are like-minded and on a similar path.
Meredith leaves nothing on the table in this episode and talks about how being an artist is more than just the work. She drives home that your art and your life are intertwined. They are always informing one another. It’s all happening and we don’t get to “be the boss of how people see us”. We do get to, however, allow creative energy to flow through us. How others receive it is not up to us.
In this episode:
- how the two most important females in her life are the catalysts for her facing her fears and allowing her to explore her work and life with greater freedom and curiosity.
- What gift she would like to give to every one of her acting students
- why daily exercise is her non-negotiable
- Self-promotion as an artist and the feelings that can come up around it.
- The difference between working in the US and Canada as an actor.
Meredith McGeachie: "There Is No Such Thing As Good Enough. Just Start."
A little about Meredith:
Meredith McGeachie is an award-winning actress who has worked extensively on Stage, and in Film and Television throughout Canada and the US. After a successful season at the highly esteemed Shaw Festival, Meredith went on to play featured and leading roles in films, most recently When We Rise, directed by Gus Van Sant. She has also had regular and recurring roles on several hit television shows including Ties That Bind, Played, Fringe and Supernatural.
While living and working in Los Angeles, Meredith discovered her love of teaching and coaching actors. She has taught at the renowned Lesly Kahn Studio and is also a master teacher at Anthony Meindl Actor Workshops.
Now a proud mother, and the Principal and owner of Stagecoach Milton and Burlington, Meredith is excited to offer this incredible program to Halton Region and strongly believes that an education in the arts is essential to understanding the world we live in; engaging children and providing them with the tools to express themselves through the magic of song, dance, and story.
